SHUR/Cut Series Microtomes

SHUR/Cut Microtomes are precision-engineered microtomes with a solid one-piece metal base. The specimen arm has a 70mm vertical stroke and a 40mm horizontal extension. The coarse advance handwheel can be ordered to provide forward movement of the specimen arm when turned in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise (reverse) direction. The fine advance handwheel is counterbalanced for smooth rotation and has positive locking in any position. A full range of optional features and accessories are available.

The SHUR/Cut™4055 microtome is an easy to use, non-retracting workhorse. It is suitable for sectioning routine paraffin blocks or industrial specimens where retraction is not necessary.

The SHUR/Cut™4060 is a retracting microtome that may be used for plastics as well as paraffin. It has the same precision engineering as the SHUR/Cut 4055 plus three additional features: an 80mm mechanical retraction of specimen arm, a section counter and an Autotrim feature that allows controlled coarse advance during trimming.

The SHUR/Cut™4060RE is identical to the SHUR/Cut4060 with the addition of a motorized sectioning stroke designed to reduce repetitive motions that can contribute to musculoskeletal disorders. The electronics can be operated by a hand pad that can be placed on either side or the optional footpad control. It can also be used manually, using an easy switchover mechanism.

SHUR/Cut Microtome Accessories

Specimens of various sizes and shapes can be held securely. The most commonly used holder, the SHUR/Cut 1020U, is for holding cassettes of paraffin embedded specimens. The SHUR/Cut 1020 holds other rectangular or square specimens and accepts adapters for holding round specimens or films. The specimen holders can either be fixed in position with the fixed adapter, SHUR/Cut 1001, or they can be held with an x-y orientation device, SHUR/Cut 1000, that allows up to an 8° movement in any direction to orient the block face to the knife.

The knife holder base, SHUR/Cut 2000, will accept holders for disposable blades or reusable, steel or tungsten-carbide (t-c) tipped knives, or an adapter for Ralph (Histo) glass knives. The SHUR/Cut 2040 triangular knife holder, for glass or diamond knives, has a built-in base.

The disposable blade holder, SHUR/Cut 2020U, holds various plates that accommodate any low profile, SHUR/Cut 2020A, or high profile, SHUR/Cut 2020B-F, disposable blade. The SHUR/Cut 2010 knife holder holds steel or t-c tipped knives. If extra stability is needed for extremely hard specimens the SHUR/Cut 2030 offers extra support by clamping the knife with a clamping plate.
